AWD and 4WD Drive Trains on 2020 Ford Models

As another intense Wisconsin winter approaches, there’s no telling how much freezing rain or snow Milwaukee will receive. However, there is an opportunity to prepare for the slippery and sometimes unsafe driving conditions by equipping yourself with a vehicle that has AWD or 4WD drivetrains. When the roads are full of snow and ice, it’s important to get as much traction as possible to ensure that you have complete control of your vehicle.

When you get in a new vehicle, make sure you’re trusting a quality brand with advanced safety features and other modern technology. Luckily, here at Eric Von Schledorn in Milwaukee, we offer a variety of trusted and quality brands, like Ford, Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac. Now, let’s check out which 2020 Ford vehicles have AWD and 4WD drive trains.

Intelligent AWD, Intelligent 4WD and 4-Wheel Drive are available options on the following vehicles:

  • Ford Fusion
  • Ford Flex
  • Ford Escape
  • Ford Expedition
  • Ford Edge
  • Ford F-150
  • Ford Explorer
  • Ford Super Duty (F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550)

What is the difference between Intelligent AWD and Intelligent AWD?

Some vehicles have constant AWD drivetrains, while others are manually and automatically turned on. Intelligent AWD constantly monitors the road and its conditions and automatically enacts all-wheel drive when the vehicle needs traction and additional help maintaining control. Intelligent AWD is available in quite a few Ford vehicles.

Like Intelligent AWD, the Ford Intelligent 4WD turns on when the vehicle enters more rugged terrain and off-road conditions. Intelligent 4WD would turn on while driving through mud, rocks, deep snow and grass. Intelligent 4WD adds extra torque to the wheels and can help avoid getting stuck or losing traction.

4-Wheel Drive

While Intelligent AWD and 4WD are automatically enacted, 4-Wheel Drive on many Ford models is turned on by turning a knob. The Ford 4-Wheel Drive comes with three modes that include 2H, 4H and 4L. 2H is for normal operation, while 4H is for off-road and driving through the snow and 4L provides additional power in off-road situations.
