A new generation of Volkswagen SUV is on its way — but we’ll have to wait a little longer. There are a lot of 2017 Volkswagen SUV rumors and release dates floating around. As American car buying efforts change, automakers have begun the shift towards catering a crossover lineup to their changing tastes. Volkswagen is set to jump into the fray to provide the U.S. auto market with a lineup of new crossover SUVs. In addition to the new crossover SUV models planned, the Tiguan and Touareg will likely see redesigns in the near future, keeping them on pace with some of the models that have come to market in the last few years.

Volkswagen is set to release a new crossover SUV model in the first part of 2017.

Volkswagen designed their new SUV lineup for the American car buyer. The rumored new 2017 Volkswagen crossover will be built in the Chattanooga, TN plant where the current generation Passat is being produced. With the release of a new crossover, Volkswagen plans to compete directly with the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, and Toyota Highlander.

2016 VW concept debuts

Over the last calendar year Volkswagen has debuted a number of crossover vehicles. The Volkswagen BUDD-e concept was one of the most popular concepts in recent memory. BUDD-e is a retro Microbus stocked with some of the most impressive technology ever put into an automobile.

Volkswagen also debuted the T-Cross Breeze convertible crossover and a new take on the Tiguan, the Tiguan GTE Active.
