The Best Films for Racing fans

While Wisconsin is certainly known as a football-loving state, it’s impossible to separate our area from its love of auto racing. Whether we’re talking about the famed Road America track in nearby Elkhart Lake or Wisconsin’s homegrown racers such as Matt Kenseth and the late Dick Trickle, there’s a certain amount or racing in our DNA. This got us thinking during a recent conversation, which films are the best for fans of racing? We’ve consulted our staff at EVS Auto Group, and come up with this list.

5 Best Films for Fans of Racing

Talladega Nights (2006)

Let’s start with one that began as a mere curiosity and has become a cult classic in the meantime. From the legendary dinner prayer to the “tame the tiger” driving sequence to the chemistry of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, there’s lots to love here. Factor in their obvious love of NASCAR, and it’s spot is secure.

Cannonball Run (1981)

First, consider the premise: a cross-country race, involving all sorts of wacky automobiles. Then, look at the cast: Burt Reynolds, Farrah Fawcett, Jackie Chan, Jamie Farr, Terry Bradshaw, Peter Fonda, to name just a few. There’s a reason that this one has held up long past its 1981 release date.

Rush (2013)

This film takes a cinematic look at the legendary 1976 Formula One season, when friends and rivals Niki Lauda and James Hunt took alternate shots at each other on and off the course. To really feel the speed of the track, few movies do it better.

Days of Thunder (1990)

Okay, this is a bit of a sentimental favorite. Although it’s been dismissed as “Top Gun on a racetrack,” it’s actually a pretty enjoyable little movie. And, of course, 1990 is around the time when we were getting to Peak Tom Cruise.

Senna (2010)

If you love documentaries and haven’t seen this one, then you’re doing yourself a disjustice. It tells the story of Ayrton Senna, who was known for his intensity both on and off the racetrack, and who is unfortunately most remembered for his untimely death. This one will stick with you for a while.

So, what do you think? Were there any that we obviously missed? If so, let us know in the comments below, and come see us soon at any of our five EVS Auto Group locations!
