Five ways to improve fuel economy

Getting the most out of your vehicle’s fuel economy will require very little work on your part. Most people think that in order to get better MPGs, they need to buy a new vehicle that has an EPA-estimated higher fuel efficiency rating. Actually, there are a few habits you can change to watch those MPGs go up. Take a look at five different ways to improve fuel economy here on our blog!

  • Close the windows. Opening the windows can let in some refreshing air, but the extra drag created from that can really take a toll on your MPGs. If you’re feeling a little too warm, just turn the A/C on instead.
  • Coast when you can. You don’t need to leave your foot on the gas pedal the whole time. If you can see a stop sign up ahead in the distance, simply coast there instead of slamming on the brakes a couple dozen feet before you get there.Front driver side exterior view of a red 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500
  • Clean out the vehicle. Excess cargo in your vehicle will weigh you down, and that extra weight will drop your fuel efficiency.
  • Fill up the tires properly. If the tires in your vehicle are over or underinflated, it can affect the fuel economy because the engine will have to work harder to move the vehicle.
  • Avoid prolonged idling. When you spend more than 30 seconds with the vehicle running, you’re burning more gas than it takes to turn the car off and back on again. Turn the car off if you plan to be stopped for longer than that.

Make these simple changes and you’ll be on your way to better fuel economy and a smaller effect on the environment. Learn more when you contact us or check out more tips and tricks here on our blog!
