GM Improving EV Charging Convenience On-the-Go

Automakers are starting to push EVs heavily, with many planning to electrify their entire lineups as soon as possible. But some buyers aren’t completely on board. One complaint that frequently rears its head is embodied by the old concept of “range anxiety.” Drivers worry that finding a charging station to juice up their ride will be difficult or impossible, especially on long journeys. Additionally, there’s the conception that, even if a station is found, charging will take a long time.

Overall, buyers fear EVs will simply be much more inconvenient to keep juiced up compared to gas vehicles. How are automakers like General Motors addressing this fear?

General Motors is working hard to make EVs as convenient to use and refuel as combustion engines currently are. The automaker has made no bones about its aim for a world of zero emissions. One main ways they’re helping consumers keep track of charging stations and battery range is with an app called “Energy Assist.”

What is GM Energy Assist?

Energy Assist is a feature that comes standard for Chevrolet Bolt EV Owners. It can be accessed in their myChevrolet mobile app.

What does Energy Assist do?

Energy Assist locates available charging station, both along the driver’s anticipated route and in their current area. The app continuously monitors the route as the driver drives, and will send an alert if range projections change dramatically. Energy Assist accomplishes these moment-to-moment readjustments by being integrated with data from the vehicle itself.

Finding Charge Spots

One main goal of the app is to help users find available charging stations, delivering what GM calls a “holistic charging experience.” It’s made to assist drivers both when they’re near their home and out on a cross-country road trip.
