Because crossover SUVs are often lumped into one enormous category, often with only loose similarities. In the Chevy lineup, there are three crossover SUVs currently, two of which are found here, the 2017 Chevy Trax and 2017 Chevy Equinox. While they certainly have some facets in common, such as unibody construction, car-like efficiency and an SUV\u2019s versatility, they certainly aren\u2019t identical. So, how do they compare?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Performance<\/h3>\n\n\n

Right from the outset, it\u2019s important to understand that the Trax and Equinox feature decidedly different performance profiles. The Trax has been crafted to offer an urban-minded drive style, highlighted by its standard turbocharged powertrain delivering 138 hp and 33 highway mpg. For maneuvering and parking in city conditions, there is nothing better. Meanwhile, the Equinox offers two different powertrains — a 2.4L four-cylinder offering 31 highway mpg, and a 3.6L V6 delivering 301 hp — giving buyers the best of both worlds.<\/p>\n\n\n

Design<\/h3>\n\n\n

Obviously, a compact crossover like the Trax and a midsize such as the Equinox aren\u2019t going to be perfectly similar, which is certainly the point. Both have offered seating for five and similar tech features — more on that in a moment — but take different paths getting there. For its part, the Trax delivers a spacious 48.4 cubic feet of cargo volume, compared to 63.7 cubic feet for the Equinox. Both models offer seating that can be easily reconfigured to maximize space, although the Equinox, of course, offers more in this regard.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Technology<\/h3>\n\n\n

The tech features found in both the Trax and Equinox are seemingly above reproach, so this is less of a \u201cversus\u201d statement than an \u201ceach is awesome\u201d statement. Both models offer features such as the built-in 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, updated Chevy MyLink with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and much more. Additionally, the Equinox adds the all-new myChevrolet smartphone app, which allows users to control certain functions using the phone in their pockets. (At press time, the Trax hadn\u2019t announced whether it would use the app or not.)<\/p>\n\n\n
