The month of July is upon us again which means\u00a0<\/span>it\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0trade season in Major League Baseball. Our Milwaukee Brewers have had a strong campaign so far, but they haven\u2019t seemed to have built\u00a0<\/span>off of<\/span>\u00a0last year\u2019s success. The Crew has been in first place or tied for first place for much of the year, so let\u2019s explore some of their options for the trade deadline which is on July 31.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What will the Brewers do at the trade deadline?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Below, we will explore three options for the Brewers, some more plausible than others. The team is\u00a0<\/span>in a position<\/span>\u00a0to get back to the postseason, so will they go all out for a superstar? Will they stand pat? Or will they do something surprising?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Option one: Trade for pitching<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

Fans have been begging for the team to bring in a big-name pitcher for years. The most obvious name on the trade block is Madison Bumgarner, but the Brewers made his no-trade list, so unless the team gives him a big extension, he won\u2019t be coming to Milwaukee. The team has been rumored to have interest in Tigers pitcher Matthew Boyd, and Trevor Bauer could be an option but likely at a higher price. The Brewers\u2019 starting staff has been brilliant at times and has looked awful at others. Boyd has three years of control left, so he would fit GM David Stearns\u2019 philosophy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Possible scenario: Trade for SP Matthew Boyd, send OF Corey Ray, SP Freddy Peralta, IF Chad McClanahan to Tigers<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Option two: Do nothing<\/span> \"Milwaukee<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Brewers have been known to be active on the trade market, but perhaps nothing will suit their needs this year. Yes, the team could always use more pitching, but guys like Bumgarner, Bauer, or Max Scherzer will have astronomical price tags. Stearns has made it clear that Keston\u00a0<\/span>Hiura<\/span>\u00a0isn\u2019t going anywhere, so he might decide to just ride it out with who he has. The Brewers do have pitching options in the minors who may be up soon to help with the pennant race. Guys like Zack Brown, Trey\u00a0<\/span>Supak<\/span>, Bubba Derby, Burch Smith, and Marcos\u00a0<\/span>Diplan<\/span>\u00a0could very well see themselves in the\u00a0<\/span>bigs<\/span>\u00a0before the season ends.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Option three: Sell, get first base help<\/span><\/h4>\n

We don\u2019t mean \u201csell\u201d in the traditional sense. When teams sell, they usually trade away their top players with the intention of building a farm system. We saw the Brewers do just that when they sent Carlos Gomez, Jonathan Lucroy,\u00a0<\/span>Khris<\/span>\u00a0Davis, and Jean Segura elsewhere. This year, the team is still in position to contend, but selling off valuable veterans like Travis Shaw or Jesus Aguilar could be beneficial. Both Shaw and Aguilar have struggled mightily at the plate in 2019, so perhaps they will find themselves somewhere else by the end of July. If Stearns were to include either of them in a package, perhaps he could convince the Baltimore Orioles to send 1B Mark Trumbo to Milwaukee. Trumbo would provide a big-time boost that Aguilar hasn’t been able to. Shaw and Aguilar have been productive in the past, but they simply might not be in the long-term plans of the team.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Possible scenario: Trade for 1B Mark Trumbo, send 1B Jesus Aguilar, OF Troy Stokes Jr., SP Zack Brown to Orioles<\/em><\/p>\n
