Time is not abiding by the freeze on normal life that\u2019s\ntaken place across the country, and as such, Memorial Day is approaching on May\n25th<\/sup>. Though most workers still have off for the holiday, the usual\nactivities, such as big group barbecues and parades, that would typically fill this\nunofficial start to summer are not going to be happening this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite social distancing rules, we can still chill with our immediate families. If you have a yard and a grill, head outside to do some barbecuing on your day off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hopefully the weather\u2019s nice, and, as you\u2019re most likely spending a lot of time in your house these days, getting outdoors should feel good. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watch a Few War-Themed Movies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Memorial Day is for honoring fallen members of the armed forces, after all, so this year might be a good chance to return to the roots of why this national holiday exists. Spend the day watching some classic war movies available on streaming services, such as Saving Private Ryan<\/em> or Apocalypse Now.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, these movies tend to be rather dark and violent (considering the subject matter), so be sure your kids are ready to handle it if they\u2019re joining in the viewing. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Go Fishing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Fishing and boating are still allowed during quarantine as long as those doing so practice social distancing and other guidelines. This means keeping six feet between people (besides those you live with), along with the prohibition of group activities and team sports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So feel free to head out on Lake Michigan, or just up to the shoreline, to spend some relaxing time fishing. Just keep away from those other anglers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
