5 Steps to Check Your Car\u2019s Oil<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
  1. Park your car on level ground and allow it to cool.<\/strong> Since oil is liquid, parking on uneven ground will lead to an inaccurate reading. Letting the engine cool will keep you from burning yourself.<\/li>
  2. Open the hood and locate your dipstick.<\/strong> The dipstick handle is often orange or yellow in color.<\/li>
  3. Pull out the dipstick and clean the oil off the end with a paper towel. <\/strong>This is to ensure an accurate reading.<\/li>
  4. Reinsert the dipstick fully like you found it, then remove again.<\/strong> Before wiping, take a look at its color and level. Dark oil means you will need an oil change while amber-colored oil means it is still fresh. Your oil level should be above the lowest dot and below the highest dot.<\/li>
