There have been rumblings for the last few months that Volkswagen would surprise us with a new SUV, and friends, that day has arrived. Today, we at EVS Auto Group are proud to unveil the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas, which we expect to arrive in the middle of 2017. Many of the details are understandably being kept close to the vest, but here’s what we know so far.

2018 Volkswagen Atlas Release Date | Milwaukee, WI

About the Design

This will be the first-ever Volkswagen SUV to offer three rows of seating, meaning that seven passengers will be welcome inside the 2018 Atlas. Stylistically, it breaks somewhat from what we’ve seen from the Touareg and Tiguan, with more accented fenders and a more menacing front end. Of course, it is the largest SUV that Volkswagen has ever produced, so this isn’t all that surprising.

About the Powertrains

Exact details might not be known for a few months, but the early word is that two powertrain options will be offered: a turbocharged, 238-hp four-cylinder option, and a line-topping 3.6L V6 rated for 280 horsepower. Both will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while VW’s popular 4Motion all-wheel-drive system will be offered on the six-cylinder option. We’ll pass along fuel-economy numbers as they become available.

About the Features

Many of the features will become newsworthy as the release date approaches, but we do know that there will be standard LED headlights and daytime running lights, with optional LED taillights. Also, from a technology standpoint, we’ll see VW’s excellent Car-Net suite with App-Connect that pairs a driver’s smartphone with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. The new Fender audio system is reported to be the most sophisticated that Volkswagen has ever offered, while the safety features are reported to include lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning.

All told, this is certainly an exciting day for Volkswagen, and for our EVS Auto Group partner, Ernie Von Schledorn Volkswagen, located in Menomonee Falls. We expect to see this model in the late summer of next year, and if you’d like to learn more, please visit one of our dealerships today!
