Keep Your Expectations Reasonable
Remember the scene in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation where Clark Griswold loses his mind after not getting the bonus he was expecting? This is a microcosm for a common problem. If you tie up the entire season with loaded expectations, and then those expectations aren’t met, it can cause a pretty staggering come-down. That’s why it’s important to temper your expectations with reality, if only for your own sanity’s sake.
Say “No” Sometimes
Since it’s the season of giving, you might find yourself agreeing to do things that you either don’t have time for or just aren’t interested in doing. Maybe your kids want you to help with something, or your in-laws want to go shopping. A few of these random concessions are fine, but if you say “yes” to everything, you’ll eventually feel as though you’re not taking time for yourself.
