What Is Cadillac Super Cruise and How Does It Work?
Cadillac Super Cruise. It sounds pretty awesome, doesn’t it? But, if you’re eyeing up a new Cadillac or if you currently own one and aren’t quite sure what this feature is, then allow us to explain.
Super Cruise refers to Cadillac’s driver assistance feature, which the automaker recently enhanced for the 2021 model year. The 2021 Cadillac CT5 and CT4 are the first models to see the upgrades.
So, what can Super Cruise do? Well, it essentially enables hands-free operation of the vehicle. You may have thought that was only a capability in a Tesla, but Cadillac is on the cutting edge of automotive technology too.
The Super Cruise system can make driving a breeze, keeping you in your lane on appropriately marked highways without the need for steering inputs from the driver unless absolutely necessary, such as emergency situations. Recent enhancements to Super Cruise also allow the vehicle to change lanes without the need for driver steering input.
How to Use Super Cruise
That said, you’ll still need to be engaged with the vehicle in order for Super Cruise to work. For instance, in order for Super Cruise to change lanes for you, Super Cruise will need to be engaged and the driver will need to activate the turn signal. The system will start searching for an opening to merge into the desired lane and will do so once a safe opening is provided. The system is also monitoring driver activity the entire time to ensure the driver is alert and attentive.
To activate the Super Cruise system, the driver should press the Adaptive Cruise Control button on the steering wheel. A white Super Cruise symbol (steering wheel icon) will illuminate in the instrument cluster to indicate that the vehicle is operating on compatible highway. This simply means that lane markings and road curvature (or lack thereof) are sufficient for the system to detect and receive all necessary data for safe operation.
