It wasn’t so long ago that we were heralding the debut of the redesigned Chevy Cruze, which has arrived at EVS Auto Group in both sedan and hatchback body styles. Part of the mid-year enhancements to the model’s platform is the addition of the 2017 Chevy Cruze Turbo Diesel, which we’re expecting to see at our dealership in the near future. But how does it perform?
2017 Chevy Cruze Turbo Diesel Fuel Economy Numbers
Just this morning, we received word from the Environmental Protection Agency that was somewhat surprising. Of course, we knew that the Cruze Turbo Diesel would offer terrific fuel economy, but this was a pleasant piece of serendipity.
Powered by a 1.6L, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, the 2017 Chevy Cruze Turbo Diesel rewards buyers with 137 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. In terms of fuel economy, the Cruze Turbo Diesel, when mated to a six-speed manual transmission, returns an astonishing 52 highway mpg. To put this in perspective, this means that a single tank of diesel fuel results in a 700-mile range. In practical terms, this means that you could fill your Cruze Turbo Diesel in Milwaukee, head south, and arrive nine hours later in Memphis with 80 miles to spare. That’s some serious fuel economy.

2017 Chevy Cruze Turbo Diesel vs. Toyota Prius Fuel Economy
Perhaps the most important question that drivers ask relates to how well the new Cruze Turbo Diesel compares to its competitors, particularly the popular Toyota Prius. While the Prius narrowly bests the the Cruze when the Chevy is equipped with an automatic transmission, but with a manual transmission, the Cruze edges the 50 highway mpg achieved by the Prius.
