When you’re a teenager, driving is a big deal. You feel like you wait forever to get your license and then you finally pass your driver’s test and you’re free. No matter what your age is, driving comes with plenty of safety concerns. Younger drivers, however, might need some reminders as they get on the roads for the first time. Keep reading to learn more.

Helpful driving reminders for teens

Keep your phone silenced and put away

This goes for everyone on the roads, but especially inexperienced drivers. We all have smartphones now. You’re probably reading this on a smartphone. Texting while driving is one of the leading causes of accidents and on-road deaths. Keep your phone silenced, or even better—turned off, and put away, out of sight.

Limit your number of passengers driving instructor rating female driver

In many cases, restrictions on your license legally prohibit more than one or two passengers anyway. Even after your restrictions expire, it’s still a good idea to limit your passenger count. Packing your car full of friends can cause too many distractions, and even if you keep your eyes on the road, it can be difficult to focus.

Take it slow

Try to avoid speeding at all costs. A speeding ticket is one of the easiest traffic citations to get, and it will show up on your record and cause your insurance rates to rise. Whether you’re on the highway or in a residential area, be aware of the speed limit and don’t go more than two or three miles per hour faster than that. It’s also important to remember not to go too slow. Driving way under the speed limit can be almost as dangerous as driving too fast. Stay safe on the roads!
