General Motors Helps With Ventilator Production

The current coronavirus pandemic is creating challenges for everyone across the world, and unfortunately, the medical community is perhaps the hardest hit, tasked with caring for those who have fallen ill without adequate equipment.

That’s why General Motors is getting involved with ventilator production, teaming up with Ventec Life Systems to manufacture VOSCN critical care ventilators.

To do this, GM has converted its plant in Kokomo, Indiana to be equipped for ventilator production. This is a massive undertaking, of course, but they are expected to deliver the first ventilators next month, pending clearance by the FDA.

Eventually, the plant will look to increase manufacturing capacity to 10,000 ventilators each month. If need be, the plant should be able to increase this should the need arise as the pandemic progresses. In addition to all of this, GM has begun work to locate Personal Protective Equipment, or PPE, of which there is also a shortage. This equipment will then be donated, and individuals can donate such equipment as well if they have it. People are encouraged to check their local health system’s website for drop-off information.

Though this is a difficult time, the one thing that brings some joy is seeing communities and companies come together to tackle this crisis.
