Milwaukee-Area Volunteer Opportunities During the Coronavirus Pandemic

With COVID creating new problems in the lives of many, kind souls in the Milwaukee area are wondering how they can help. Even though the virus makes volunteering in-person more difficult and restricted than before, there are still plenty of opportunities for folks to lend a hand. In-Person Volunteer Opportunities

In spite of the obvious difficulties, many organizations still need volunteers that can help out in-person. One option is the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Milwaukee’s Meal Program, which serves nutritious evening meals to hundreds of people six days per week. The organization states that help is especially needed “during these uncertain times.”

Volunteers for this program are needed to assist in preparing and serving to-go boxed meals and help with clean-up in accordance with CDC guidelines. The organization assures that masks are provided and social distancing regulations are adhered to. Volunteers are needed between 3:30 and 6:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.

Virtual Volunteer Opportunities

Like so many things in 2020, a lot of volunteer organizations are finding ways to do things virtually. One option is to spend time virtually with youth through the big brother/big sister program.

Another option would be to do after-school English tutoring for children of immigrants and refugees through the Catholic Charities program. This program aims to “help individuals build the real-life knowledge, attitudes, and skills that they need to achieve success.

Donation Opportunities

Another way to help the Milwaukee community get through the COVID-19 pandemic is through donating. Though many organizations are not currently hosting volunteers on-site, they are still accepting donations.

One organization that falls into this boat is Guest House. This organization still needs products for the people it helps. Even small amounts of unopened, new products are helpful. Products needed include hygiene products, clothing and food. Though items must be dropped off at the shelter, Guest House assures that this process is performed in a socially distanced manner, the specifics of which will be shared with volunteers upon scheduling.
