How do I know if my wheels aren’t aligned?

You may be familiar with wheel alignment services. In case you aren’t, a wheel alignment is a service that, as the name suggests, re-positions the wheels on your vehicle to make sure they’re straight. Wheels can become unaligned when you hit potholes or bumps in the road. While this isn’t always going to cause extreme damage, the alignment can get worse and worse over time, which can also affect your fuel efficiency. Check out a few signs to help you know that your wheels aren’t properly aligned!

  • Uneven tire wear. This can happen when the wheels aren’t properly aligned, as it can lead to excess friction on some tires more than others.person fixing a tire on a vehicle
  • Vehicle is pulling in one direction. Are you noticing that you have to compensate for the vehicle pulling one way by pulling the steering wheel the other way just to keep the vehicle driving straight? If so, this could be the unaligned wheels working against each other.
  • Vibration in the steering wheel. While there are plenty of causes for a vibrating steering wheel, one of them could be due to unaligned tires. If you’re noticing this symptom along with one of the others, there’s a good chance it’s due to the wheels.
  • Steering wheel is crooked. When the tires are straight and the vehicle isn’t moving, the steering wheel should remain straight. If it’s crooked, that’s a clear sign that something is wrong.
